The need for computer network servers
must be addressed by the management of almost every small business. While
servers can be very useful for any business, they can also create
unnecessary expense or hassle. This document is designed to help managers
of small businesses to easily decide whether a server is right for their
business.
I put this together with the intension
of creating an easy quick reference and simple guide for small business
owners and managers. This guide is not for advanced IT personnel. It is
designed to help managers deal with outsourced technical companies and
their own IT personnel. Technical jargon is kept to a minimum. Helpful
Tips are marked with “***”.
This document has three parts:
1. Introduction
2. What is a Server? a
Workstation? a Network?
3. What Can Servers Do?
